18 years ago, Caro and Sean Feely fulfilled their dream of moving to France and buying a vineyard. With two young children, a rundown farmhouse, a vineyard in need of attention and a business to get up and running, it wasn’t all plain sailing. But today the vineyard is thriving and the family are living the dream at Château Feely in Saussignac.

Château Feely wines

Sean and Caro produce approximately 10 different types of organic, biodynamic and natural wines that include white, red, rosé and sparkling rosé.

Organic certification in France is governed by EU law and provides a guarantee that the grapes have been farmed without chemical fertilisers, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides and that the wine-making process uses few additives and limited sulfites. The rules for biodynamic wines are stricter than those for organic and certification is governed by rules set by biodynamic certification bodies. Natural wine is even stricter but there is no certification and no EU law applied. Production is based on rules set by natural winegrower associations.

Château Feely wines feature on the wine lists of Michelin star restaurants across Europe and are available to buy in specialist wine shops, organic shops, direct from the vineyard and online.

Vineyard visits

As well as making wine, Château Feely offers a choice of visits to the vineyard where participants can explore the vineyard itself, learn about French wines and the wine-making process. Visits can either be for one hour, two hours, ½ day or a full day.

Virtual experiences

After Covid, Caro realised that the vineyard had to improvise and as a result they moved into organising virtual experiences. These include corporate and team-building virtual wine-tasting events, private virtual wine-tasting parties, live virtual wine events, virtual discover wine courses and a virtual St Emilion tour and red wine course.

Wine tours

Château Feely also organises two and five-day wine tours that reach out to the Grand Cru Classé wine estates of the world-famous Bordeaux regions of Medoc and St Emilion. Accommodation is available in Château Feely’s four-person wine lodge or two-person wine cottage.

Caro Feely is a woman of many talents which do not stop at wine-making. As an accomplished author, she has just brought out her fifth book, “Saving Sophia”. This book goes back to the beginning of the family’s story about living the dream at Château Feely in Saussignac. Previous books include Grape Expectations, Saving Our Skins, Vineyard Confessions and Cultivating Change.

And last but not least, Caro runs yoga classes in the vines. A full-day yoga retreat is also available and includes lunch in the pretty village of Saussignac, within walking distance of the vineyard.

Extensive information is available about all of the above on the vineyard’s website
