Châteaux en fête

This year, from the 13 to 28 April, Le Périgord celebrates its castles.

The event is called Châteaux en fête and 84 castles all over the Dordogne will be opening their doors to the public for guided visits, exhibitions, shows, concerts, hot air ballon rides, candlelit banquets, conferences and much more.

Château de Biron

Château de Biron is one of the castles taking part this year which is the fourth time the event has taken place. The castle is situated in the heart of Bastide country in the south of the department of the Dordogne, near the medieval town of Monpazier. With over 1000 years of history, this monumental castle is classed as a monument historique in France and offers a mix of medieval, Renaissance and Classical architecture. It’s very impressive and well worth a visit.

A few details:

  • The castle will be open from the 13-28 April
  • After 10 years of closure, the castle is now opening its cellars to visitors
  • Exhibition on childhood in the Middle Ages
  • Conference on the work on the castle’s chapel on Sunday 28 April at 3pm
  • Evening discovery of tales and legends on Saturday 20 April at 8.30pm
  • Demonstration of weapons on the 16, 24 and 25 April

The programme of events organised by Châteaux en fête is varied and extensive so it’s a good idea to look at the website beforehand to see exactly what is going on and when. This event is truly amazing and invites you to discover and make the most of our beautiful region.
