Sitting on a hillside with views over the town of Eymet in the Dordogne countryside is a little haven of peace, La ferme de Julie, where you can buy fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables direct from the farm.

Julie on her farm in Eymet

Melons galore!

La Ferme de Julie is approximately 17 hectares and is where Julie Lajaunie happily works growing melons, tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, peaches, nectarines and grapes which she sells directly to her customers. One hectare of the farm alone is devoted to melons which are by far Julie’s most popular fruit, followed by tomatoes and cucumbers.

The fruit and vegetables are always fresh

Buy local. Buy Direct. Buy fresh.

During the summer season, all the fruit and vegetables are picked early morning. A lot are taken to the farm’s stand at Eymet which is situated by the side of the road at the junction between the Route National and the road to Issigeac. Julie also sells to a supermarket in nearby Sigoulès as well as a local business that supplies fruit and vegetables to local restaurants. And, of course, everything can be bought at the farm itself.

Julie is no stranger to farming as she grew up on the nearby family farm. After a long period of time away from home, which included studying for a Master’s degree in Geography followed by an office job, Julie yearned to work outdoors and made the decision to go back to her roots and live a farming life. In 2023, she established La Ferme de Julie. When she is not on the farm, Julie works as a quality controller at the Association des Fruits et Legumes du Lot-et-Garonne. This association aims to promote the strawberry in the department.

Towards the end of the year Julie has a project to install an automatic distributer for her produce. This will mean that people who work full time and who cannot make it to either the stand or shops during the day, will not miss out on being able to buy their fruit and vegetables locally.

Last summer I started buying from Julie. The taste of her fruit and vegetables is devine and everything is so fresh. I just love the idea of buying local and direct and I think I probably visited every other day.

La Ferme de Julie is on Facebook and Instagram.
