Not far from Neuvic on the D3 is a sleepy little village called Douzillac where you will find a superb restaurant opposite the church, La Douzième Heure.

From the outside, although very clean and tidy, the restaurant looks like it might be more of a Confit de canard or omelette sort of restaurant, but oh!, how wrong can you be?

I went for just a main course, the Thon Rossini, which was fresh tuna with a slice of foie gras and presented on a crusty, grated potato cake with a tasty “jus”. It was absolutely delicious.

There was also a set menu which was completely mouth-watering. My partner chose the pork terrine as a starter, beef tongue for main course and a fig dessert. He was speechless which doesn’t happen very often, lol!

All the micro greens for decoration came from a local farm, a touch that I really liked. The fresh bread was amazing and the presentation was faultless.

The restaurant was impeccably clean and the service excellent.

Inside, the decor is very contemporary and stylish.

This is the best lunch I have had for a long time and for the quality, presentation and service offered, I found it really good value for money. La Douzième Heure is highly recommended. 10/10.

  • Don’t be put off by the photo of the beef tongue. It is supposed to be like this and is very tender inside.
